I try to keep it as unstructured as possible, to allow for
a wide musical experience.
When an average number of players show up it seems to work.
I think we have even found some unexpected magic on numerous
Thursdays. As more and more players show up, the logistics
of equipment and scheduling tend to obscure the magic. (does
the phrase "run away train" jog your memory?)
What I propose:
8:00pm - 9:30pm, I will open the night with
a song or two - then provide stage time for single/duets/trios
on a first come, first serve basis from a signup
list. If you want to have a stage time, you need to be early.
I will make an effort to start as close to 8:00pm as possible.
If you show up after 9:30pm you are welcome to play in the
band format but the solo slots are over.
9:30pm-11:00pm, the open jam - full band
format we have been having fun with. The only change would
be to keep the number of guitar players to 10 or less at
any given time
Seriously, jamming is a skill. It revolves around listening
to the full band and adding only what is needed. It is not
just a random occurrence.
There are some combinations of players we have had on Thursdays
that turn out some incredible performances even with 3-4
guitars involved. Other combinations have produced underwhelming
variations on unrecognizable themes.
While I have of course been part of both types, I choose
magic. "Once you've heard the magic, you never go back baby!"
Ugh...let's see what was my point? Oh yeah, Listen Up!
Thanks for coming! Thanks for playing! Thanks for listening!
Thanks for the magic!!!!!!
